Growing a Career, Empowering Others: Meet District Manager Marissa Morales

When Marissa Morales joined Red Wing more than 12 years ago, she wasn't expecting to find a role that would define her career. She was a new mom, applying for jobs and trying to figure out her next step.

Today, she's a District Manager helping lead retail teams across Southern California. Along the way, she's built a career rooted in growth, mentorship, and helping others reach their potential.

What's most remarkable about Marissa's story isn't just where she is today. It's the journey she took to get there.

"This was my first ever job," she says. "I started as a part-timer. I found an opportunity and created it for myself. I waited patiently."

She remembers walking into the store for her interview and feeling something different.

"It was just a really good feeling," she recalls. "When I stepped inside, I had that gut feeling that I had a purpose somewhere. This is where I was meant to be."

That feeling has stayed with her throughout every stage of her career.

Over the years, Marissa progressed from part-time associate to leadership roles, learning from mentors, seeking advice, and taking advantage of opportunities to grow. She credits Red Wing's culture of support as one of the biggest reasons she's been able to build a long-term career with the company.

"When I was a part-timer, I would call managers and ask, 'What do you like about your job? What advice do you have for me?'" she says. "Everyone was so helpful. Any person could call anyone anywhere and get the friendliest phone call."

Today, that same commitment to development is what she loves most about her role.

"A big part of my job is helping people find themselves," Marissa says. "The best part of being a district manager is helping people grow."

Whether she's coaching a new associate, supporting a store manager, or helping someone build skills they'll use throughout their career, Marissa believes growth looks different for every person. What matters is having people who genuinely care about your success.

That people-first mindset has also helped shape her own leadership style. Once a shy 19-year-old, Marissa has grown into a confident leader who now mentors others through their own development journeys.

"I didn't expect to grow into such a confident person," she says. "But when you have the right team, the right support, and honest feedback, it's very easy to develop and grow."

As a working parent who has spent her entire professional career at Red Wing, she also appreciates the flexibility and balance the company provides.

"The work-life balance is fantastic," she says. "Everyone gets it. It's never been that mentality of, 'Sorry, you're married to your job.'"

When asked what she hopes others take away from her story, her answer is simple:

"Stay hopeful. There are companies out there that actually help you get to where you want to be in life. Whether that's finding a purpose, developing skills, or finding a work home, it is possible."

For anyone considering a career at Red Wing, Marissa's journey is proof that opportunity can start anywhere. With support, patience, and a willingness to grow, a part-time role can become something much bigger.

And for Marissa, the journey is far from over.

"I have a long way to go still," she says with a smile.

That's exactly the kind of mindset that's helped her turn her first job into a meaningful career.
